Even Big Dai X was dismissed as a fairly bland looking piece of mecha compared to Go Nagi's past creations. When X-Bomber first launches from Moon Base to combat a task force of Imperial carriers and fighters it does so on a wing and a prayer with an inexperienced crew. X-Bomber is downed during this encounter, crash-landing on the surface of the Moon, enabling Makara's forces to reach Earth Defence Forces.The X-Project was designed by Professor Hagan, prior to his disappearance, and built by the EDF in an underground hangar on the Moon under the supervision of Dr Benn. BrainCom is small, fast interceptor. It is effective against large numbers of smaller targets but cannot withstand a great deal of damage. Maybe if the British public had had the same programing as the Japanese, Star Fleet might have been perceived as just another show, but I doubt it. The three Dai-X Fighters transform and combine to form the Dai-X; a 70-metre-tall robot that can fly and operate in space or within a planet's atmosphere. Things are quiet on the Star Fleet front ... So, I might submit a few posts on alternative topics, which people might find to be of interest ... I had a little browse around FromJapan and found an X Bomber colouring/activity book that I hadn't seen before.

This was still very much a kids show, but it did have dark themes running through it, which were often offset by Lamia's warm character and some comic banter between Hercules and P.P.A. Caliban shows some Noble Demon qualities when Makara tries to shoot Orion down, figuring he's deserting. Caliban talks her out of it, saying that Orion's suffered permanent injuries by then and all he wants is the chance to have a soldier's death. With Pluto Base gone the only thing in between Earth and Commander Makara is Moon Base and the crew of X-Bomber (a prototype vessel armed to the teeth and carrier of the devastating Dai-X).

The workshop crew even made a few puppets that were to only feature in an individual episode, or in the case of the two Imperial council members only in a few very short scenes. I was surprised that it is a fair bit smaller than the Vipers that Eaglemoss did for Battlestar Galactica. In any case, it's level of detail is very high - maybe more-so than the Vipers.
