About this deal

And ultimately, this is the difference between the two lines, so consider that when you see future Aputure and Amaran products that share similarities but land at different price points.

Featuring an all-new dual-blue LED chipset design, the 100d S has improved spectral continuity to achieve stunning spectral reproduction of an ultra-high SSI (D56) of 86, a 19% increase in SSI from its predecessor. The 100d S also features super Do you need the ability to change the color temperature within the fixture or will gels do? For adding gels to the Amaran 100d and 200d, you’ll find the Aputure barn doors available here. Image Credit: Graham Sheldon / CineD Accessories Built-In Lighting Effects. Toggle through Paparazzi, Fireworks, Lightning, Faulty Bulb, TV, Pulsing, Strobe, and Explosion, effects. In 2014, the Aputure we now know and love was founded, and if you thought Aputure was just a form of misspelt branding like Lyft, the name combines the words “ aperture” and “ future.”Aputureis aimed towards high-end users and professionals who want the best lighting system to aid them in their productions. Amaran,on the other hand, is for the newcomer to the video/photography space, online content creators and even streamers who need an affordable option that can provide a clean light source without spending hundreds of dollars. The Amaran 100d & 100x and 200d & 200x. A series of lights aimed at online content creators, photographers, live streamers and solo filmmakers who need consistent lighting for a fraction of the price of the professional units.

Lighting is a crucial element in the film and video industry. It plays a key role in setting the mood and creating the desired atmosphere for a project. With the increasing demand for high-quality video content, professionals need access to reliable and effective lighting equipment. However, like the camera and lens department, the lighting section on any online outlet is also inundated with various models and choices. Often leading the consumer to a paradox of choice. Along with intensity control, with the app you can apply one of eight different lighting effects: Paparazzi, Fireworks, Lightning, Faulty Bulb, TV, Pulsing, Strobe, or Explosion. I could definitely see myself using one of these on a music video or horror film shoot. Update: Please keep in mind that a lx reading is not the only indicator of overall output. A tighter beam angle also contributes to a larger lx reading, so you’ll want to keep the beam angle in mind when comparing fixtures. Image Credit: Graham Sheldon / CineD Who is the Amaran 100d and 200d for? The one-person band/YouTube crowd will love them both and so will in-house video teams shooting web content, an activity which has become much more common. There’s no doubt that the price to performance is there for the 100d, but its targeted audience is newcomers or budget-friendly users who need something reliable, portable and doesn’t break the bank. The 120D, on the other hand, is built for professionals or enthusiasts who can afford to pay for Apturue’s professional-grade products; they are the users who need the best when it comes to performance, mounting options and top-of-the-line build quality. They have consistently been the professional standard for lighting units and accessories, offering customers and professionals innovative and unique ways to use light within their projects, from their tiny lighting units like the popular Aputure MC to the powerful and heavy Nova P600c. Amaran 100D Photography Lighting, 100W Daylight Balanced LED (5600K), Eight Light Effects, Brightness 0-100% adjustable, Led Video Light, Light for Photography The Amaran 100d is a daylight point-source LED fixture with stunning brightness and wireless Bluetooth app control. Amaran provides the ultimate lights for content creators, interviews, portrait photography and video production. Both Apertureand Amaranproducts are regarded as some of the best you can get in regards to lighting units for their performance, build quality and listening to consumers to improve on products/firmware updates. The Amaran 100d and 200d are affordable, display excellent color handling and output, and fit neatly into an ecosystem of available accessories. Still, I can’t help but wonder if these lights are in danger of taking away some of the luster of the Aputure 120d MK II. If you were already considering the Aputure 120d MK II, then you have some serious decisions to make here when comparing it to the Amaran series — decisions that mainly come down to exterior build quality and cost.

Not only have they perfected the product quality in both build and performance, but they have also gained a reputation for outstanding connectivity and building an eco-system that allows all Aputure products to work together efficiently. Sidus Link enables users to connect to each one of their Aputure products remotely, allowing them to have complete control over multiple devices and link them to all be producing the same colour temperature and power output or tell each unit a different parameter of options depending on placement within the scene. When Aputure announced a series of affordable “ Amaran” daylight and bi-color lights alongside their live stream deep dive into the flagship 600d Pro, it came as a surprise. The Amaran 100d and 200d are both hundreds of dollars-cheaper when compared to the Aputure 120d MK II which raises questions for the consumer. What are you giving up in exchange for these savings? And, is what you are giving up worth the tradeoff? Let’s find out. The amaran 100d S is a 100W daylight Bowens Mount point-source light with a redesigned chipset for increased color quality and spectral reproduction, integrated controls, Bowens Mount compatibility, and versatile power options. Aputure are innovators and constantly pushing new features, products and options to its consumers. They have been the go-to for LED lighting products for years, and it’s always exciting to see the following new product they bring to the market. The Amaran was one of the first lines of products that changed the no-to-low-budget film industry, as it was one of the first affordable light fixtures that standard camera batteries could power—offering silent and reliable performance at a fraction of the price of lighting units at the time. The Amaran 100d has a CRI of 95, and the Aputure 120D has a CRI of 97. The difference between a light with a CRI of 80 vs 90 will be extremely apparent. And a light with a CRI of 95 will perform notably better than one with 90. The jump from 95 to 97 is only incremental, and we would need to be in a specific setup for it to become quite apparent. However, that being said, a 97 CRI is ultimately better and preferable than a light that has a 95 CRI. Inside the box is a 3m long 48V 3-Pin XLR input power supply, a 1.5m AC power cable, a 55° Hyper-Reflector, and the 100d unit itself. Aputure Amaran Review Hands-on with the 100d The overall output of 41500 lx at 3 ft is about double that of the 100d — which makes sense. 5422K with a target of 5600K is also excellent. Okay, Amaran series, now you’ve really got my attention. Speaking of light modifiers, I absolutely love the inclusion of the Bowens mount which allows you to use a multitude of different light modifiers such as the Light Dome II above or a litany of third party light accessories.

The light is dimmable from 0 to 100%, and while you can make light intensity adjustments locally on the fixture, you can also make them via Bluetooth with your smartphone and a free app. The 100d has eight built-in customizable effects, an umbrella mount, and a Bowens reflector mount for access to Amaran light shapers and also those many other manufacturers that use this popular mount. The 100d is ready for worldwide use via its built-in 100-240V power supply, but it will also run on optional batteries when AC power is unavailable.Universal Bowens Mount. Transform the quality of your light with the included 55º Hyper Reflector or a variety of accessories. It’s hard to find fault with there being so many affordable LED options these days – a win-win for filmmakers to be sure. Given the cost of the Amaran 100d and 200d, they may become the new entry fixture for filmmakers with the Aputure 120d, 300d, and 600d Pro lines holding a place on the wish list for when need and opportunity arise.
