About this deal

Their customer care rep said “I am not aware of any new detector, though I have seen images you refer to on multiple forums. There has been no Minelab announcement about any new product since EQUINOX 700/900.” Since you already own and love the XP Deus II, Minelab Equinox 800, and the Nokta Gold Kruzer, and all of the new metal detectors on the market that are affordable, why did you decide to get a Minelab X-Terra Pro? Honestly, I never touched the Iron Bias on the Equinox, I’ve used the X-Terra Pro in heavy iron that did way better than most programs on my Deus II, and it was stunning. Minelab have re-vamped the old X-Terra series to release a single, cutting-edge switchable, single-frequency detector. The X-Terra Pro is an entry-level/intermediate, waterproof, amphibious detector!

Also, the ability to carry out a complete Noise Cancel instead of frequency shifting is huge. This can make the difference between being able to detect and not detect in certain areas with excessive EMI.

The Nokta Makro Simplex +

Minelab have re-vamped the old X-Terra series to release a single, cutting-edge switchable, single-frequency detector. Three easy-to-use preprogrammed search modes, a large LCD, and an intuitive user interface make it easy for even beginners to use right out of the box. Edit: Since this article was written Minelab has confirmed that the X-TERRA PRO is being launched at the IWA in March. See here for more details: https://treasurehuntingworld.com/2023/02/10/minelab-x-terra-pro-its-official/] Loud and Clear Audio: Built-In Speaker (included), Low Latency Wireless Headphones with Wired cable. Waterproof Headphones Optional The X-Terra Pro looks amazing, with its ‘camo green’ coloured control box and arm cup, and a shape which looks like a hybrid between the Minelab Equinox and the Minelab Vanquish. You will see unearthed film these detectors in action soon!

LAPD Family Support Group Pin found in Southern Orange County Park with the Minelab X-Terra Pro. The park is metal detected often and could be considered a “pounded park.” The X-Terra Pro found this pin.

As ever with our detector comparison blogs, there is no ‘right’ answer. What works for you, won’t work for everyone and there will be a range of reasons for everyone making their own choices. At Crawfords Metal Detectors hope to help you find the machine that’s right for you. If you’re short on time, skip to the end of the blog now to read the summary, and for those who want to know it all, please take 6-8 minutes to read through our assessment. So to answer Steve's thead title question: Do we need another single frequency detector? I would say the answer is, not really. With the beaches and rivers being one of the key terrains for these machines waterproofmay be of more importance than we normally stress. At Crawfords Metal Detectors we sell a variety of detectors ranging from machines which only have a waterproof coil such as the Go Findand the high performance Vanquish range, to detectors specifically created for underwater detecting, such as the Excalibur II. Detectors like the Excalibur II are pressurised, and ideal for diving, and extreme underwater conditions (depth of 66 metres – 200ft). However, in the UK we find that due to our disappointing climate (let’s be honest, we do love the rain) and fairly cloudy waters that not many detectorists stray more than a few metres into the surf.

We think it’s the coolest looking machine around the price and its performance is absolutely brilliant. Minelab therefore had the idea of a metal detector being able to change its frequency by swapping its coil. Thus the XTerra was born!So all you Equinox users - how often do you use single frequency modes really? Are they genuinely useful and how? Because that’s what this is, Equinox with multi left out. Because of this, if I need SMF/Multi-IQ (a lot of wet salt beach detecting) and was forced to go only with ML, I would probably just skip Vanquish and go with the Nox 700. Otherwise, if I didn't need SMF, it appears that XTerra would make a versatile selectable single frequency detector that might outgun the Deus 1 if the price is set at a realistic level. If I was allowed to choose any brand, Nokta Legend appears to be the best value around and combines the best of both these detectors at about the same price point. CHOICE OF COILS – X-TERRA PRO by Minelab offers an array of waterproof coils and is compatible with V12X™ 12″x9″ Elliptical Double-D (included), V8X™ 8″x5″ Elliptical Double-D, and V10X™ 10″x7″ Elliptical Double-D coils (accessory) so you’ll be prepared for any terrain. X-TERRA PRO is also compatible with all EQUINOX® series coils. Target Identification (TID): 119 segment notch discrimination: Ferrous: -19 to 0 I Non-ferrous: 1 to 99 Re: XTerra Pro - Looks like a great selectable-frequency detector and hopefully you CAN ground balance it, unlike the Vanquish. But the omission of at least one rudimentary SMF mode makes it great detector if it was priced just somewhere between the Nokta Simplex and Vanquish price points. If they somehow allowed the Vanquish coils to be used with the XTerra Pro, that would be a bonus.
