I would have loved an app that could control the EQ without having to go to the speaker and fiddle with those non-intuitive EQ arrows. Now, the sound could be described as being thick, warm, bassy, dynamic, punchy, smooth and pretty hard-hitting. Even with the impressive 100dB volume, the Exos 9 still falls a few decibels short of the JBL PartyBox 310 when it comes to measured volume output but does perform better than the JBL Boombox series in this regard.

The Exos-9 speaker housing is made of plastic, which doesn’t instill much confidence if accidentally dropped—and I didn’t want to test it. I have owned a selection of portable speakers in the past even a large PA party unit and none came even close to what the EXOS 9 sounds like! I have used more than one source, including my smartphone, Xiaomi Mi Max 3, and even audiophile DAPs like iBasso DX220 to test the EXOS 9.

At the end of the day the 2015 Exos-9 Portable Bluetooth Speaker by Aiwa may have begun to show its age but there’s no doubt that it’s still an impressive product worth our Golden Award. If you’re after a speaker that fits this description I’d recommend looking at the Turtlebox 2 or Soundboks Go. I have just purchased a Bose Soundlink Color 2 and I can get it to pair with my HP Untrabook running Windows 7. Though I don’t read about the first review about the aiwa exos 9,I have loved this Bluetooth speaker because of the sound it provides as I have read in the reviews though some where complaining about its sound, for me it will work for me and am soon getting one for myself. With that out of the way the "new" Aiwa may be far from what the Aiwa we all knew was (at least in terms of size and available products) but if they continue to design, manufacture and release products like the EXOS-9 their future seems quite bright.
