About this deal

Yes for the relatable content, humour and cuteness but for the positive Black narrative and romances that more people need to know about.

Mateo’s relationships with his friends Kimmie and Adam (a potential love interest) also suffer repercussions as he keeps his situation a secret. So, she unites with Sasha, a girl from her church and Reggie, the town’s bad boy, to cure her condition and win back Dom. I absolutely Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry by the same author so couldn’t wait for more from them, and I was not disappointed.Maybe it's not the choice I would've taken, but it felt true to Monique's character arc and that particular family. However, because they’re in love and will eventually get married, Monique figures there’s no need to wait. I do want to say upfront this is told in the first person point of view, I know some readers hate that style, but it never bothers me. Her characters feel so real because they’re not perfect and I don’t want them to be because teenagers aren’t supposed to have everything 100% figured out. Brimming with inspiring messages about shedding shame and feeling positive about sex, and driven by a magnificent heroine whose journey to selfhood enlightens as it entertains, Joya Goffney’s Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl is laden with heart, hilarity and a whole lot of helpful information.

With a passion for black social psychology, she moved out of the countryside to attend the University of Texas in Austin, where she still resides.

podobało mi się też, że główna bohaterka próbowała odnaleźć prawdziwą siebie i zaczęła być świadoma, czego pragnie.

Given that Monique’s Daddy is a pastor at a Black Baptist church in the south, that’s quite some conflict, but church is where she gets to spend time with Dom, her “dream boy”, who also happens to be her “daddy’s protégé”. C. Rosen, in which a young gay teen plays Dear Abby anonymously to the anxious and curious teens in his school who have sex questions. This is also the first time I’ve ever seen vaginismus recognised and discussed at length healthily in teen fiction - which is so incredible! Purity culture is a disease and my heart breaks for younger me and so many other girls wrapped and tangled in its web. Along the way she makes new friends and begins to unpack assumptions she has made and her own sexual hangups.I know parenthood will be a journey and Im happy for the examples and lived experience around me that will guide future generations in being better than the ones before.
