About this deal

This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 1-Year of receipt if it does not work as expected. This is certainly a drawback, especially if you need to quickly switch from Autofocus to Manual focus (most current Nikon lenses have an “A/M” mode on the lens, which allows to override autofocus by simply rotating the focus ring). They mention that it works well with their camera, has an overall good optic quality, and is built to a much better standard. Super Integrated Coating: Nikon's multi-layer Super Integrated Coating (SIC) is designed to eliminate or reduce ghosting and flare, which tend to occur in strong backlighting situations. Without VR, it's usually impossible to get sharp hand-held shots with lenses this small and light, and with this much magnification.

After focus is achieved I found I would have to wait at least a second before the stabiliser had caught up with my movements, which means a slow and methodical approach will pay dividends when you are forced to rely on the stabiliser. Now to the Lens, I wanted something light for my travels instead of taking my work camera Nikon D700 which is a pain to carry around the neck all day with all the other lenses I have when you want to relax, for travels instead I have a Nikon D90 with 18-70mm f/3. The corners at 70mm look very similar to the 55mm crops posted above, with softer corners wide open getting pretty good by f/8. Nikon's sales literature claims it recognizes when it's attached to a tripod, yet the instructions suggest turning off VR when on a tripod. When it comes to AF, the 55-300mm zoom is surprisingly slow for a modern AF Nikkor, and is probably the slowest focusing lens in the AF-S line-up.

Here is another image sample showing soft and pleasing background rendering: NIKON D300 + 55-300mm f/4. Ideal for: Perfect normal and long-telephoto lens for general photography, but only on DX digital cameras. The Fujifilm XF 23mm F2 R WR delivers a 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view and stands out due to its small size and weather-resistant build. Acceptable condition - Scratches visible when holding the device 30 centimeters away and perceptible to the touch.

After recieving this lens, I did some tests and got to say this big plasticky piece of glass is not to be underestimated and is a terrific performer. By adhering to strict test conditions, Nikon has created technologies to control camera shake and deliver super-fast autofocusing, so you can expect sharper shots from this DX lens even with its broad range of focal length. As with other DX format lenses, the smaller image circle makes it compatible only with APS-C-sized image sensors. This is because you can get so far out of focus at 300mm that the camera has no idea what's going on, since the image becomes just one big blur. zoom and versatile 55-300mm focal length [1] enables photographers to get up-close and personal with distant subjects.

The focus ring also rotates during autofocus, and although it is recessed I caught my fingers on it a couple of times during use, so care needs to be taken to ensure fingers aren't snagged during focusing. I also have the Nikkor 50mm and while it is a top class lens for portraiture it again (not surprisingly) has no zoom capabilities. This DX-format super-telephoto zoom lens covers the 55mm to 300mm range of focal lengths and is equipped with Nikon's latest vibration reduction mechanism, VR II, for simple and enjoyable super-telephoto photography.

Autofocus has tendency to go hunting for the subject in dim light conditions, it can become an annoyance for some, specially if they shoot action photography, but what to expect from a f/4.In addition to VR II image stabilization, it features some of Nikon’s latest lens technologies: Nikon’s exclusive Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for precise, fast, ultra-quiet autofocus operation, Super Integrated Coating (SIC) for enhanced performance in low-light and minimizing ghosting and flare, Tripod Detection Mode for reducing vibrations during tripod shooting and more. As a super-telephoto lens covering the 55mm to 300mm range of focal lengths, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The compact dimensions and weather sealed, lightweight construction of the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4. As the 55-300mm VR DX is zoomed in and out, air pumps in and out, and you may have some air blow out of the eyepiece into your eye.If you want this 55-300mm VR and don't mind slower AF and clumsy manual focus, its optics and VR system are superb.
