About this deal

But Archer's Goon had been originally published in 1984 and no one had seen fit to bring it back into print.

It's fun for that whimsical inventiveness along with the dry reactions that each new frustration evokes, and the plot moves at an admirably efficient clip to introduce our memorable cast of characters and speed us to a conclusion. The book is not perfect of course, and there are a couple of notes in particular that stand out reading it as an adult (the reasoning behind Fifi’s final actions in the book, and a couple of moments which feel somewhat like fatphobia spring to mind), but in general, the book is an appropriate read for older children. Meaningful Name: Venturus, its meaning isn't mentioned in the book but the tv series has Quentin translate it as "he who is to come" in Latin. A young evacuee from the London blitz is captured and taken to Time City, a place that exists in space and time outside history.

Gaiman had already dedicated his 1991 four-part comic book mini-series The Books of Magic to "four witches", of whom Jones was one. I now look forward to a future third reading, if that’s any indication of how much fun is to be had here.

Howard Sykes is an average 13 year old boy who lives with his parents, younger sister and their au pair in the fictional town of Holisbury. Anyway, focusing on Awful’s actions and words and interactions with Howard made me realise that not only is she one of my favourite characters, she’s a character that stayed on in my mind – even when I didn’t quite know it – there are bits and pieces of her that I think back on every now and then, something she had said or just a thing she would have done in any particular situation.Aside from the animated adaptation of Howl’s Moving Castle, it remains the only screen adaptation of Jones’ work. Many of her earlier children's books were out of print in recent years, but have now been re-issued for the young audience whose interest in fantasy and reading was spurred by Harry Potter. Even so, they are an intriguing group, and it’s fun to try to work out what part each plays in the story.
