About this deal

Each character plays such an important role in the story and I found the addition of new perspectives to be so interesting. chan is actually pretty great at action scenes and i'm gonna need more of that from their future work.

She’d spent the greater part of her life trying to escape her past, and unpleasantly sticky feelings such as grief and nostalgia still filled her with the vague urge to run. The story, much like the characters, is ambitious and clever and the depth of emotion Parker-Chan is able to tap into without ever becoming maudlin is astounding. That empathy makes all of the punches hurt just that much more; on some level, despite knowing that these are terrible, no-good, very bad people, you often find yourself still wishing that they would win the day and finally find some peace.

Instead of waiting for the Yuan to send their Grand Councilor and that central army of theirs to put us down, we’ll march on Dadu together. Who else understood what it was to feel something of this magnitude; to want something with the entirety of their self, as she did? And his dig at Ouyang and Esen saying he hopes they'll find the courage to be together in another life hurt sooo good. For Baoxiang also desires revenge: to become the most degenerate Great Khan in history―and in so doing, make a mockery of every value his Mongol warrior family loved more than him. So elegantly and elaborately structured with the most beautiful and horrible cast of characters I have ever had the displeasure of becoming attached to.I can already tell that the main criticism readers will level at this book is that it’s too depressing and cruel. Deep, dark and peopled with deliciously complex characters, this book will draw you irresistibly into a world of tragedy and triumph. Her desire was the radiance of the sun, an immensity that filled every part of her without exception. She is conniving because she has to be and she so desperately desires more of the world but her options and perceptions of her possibilities are limited. Madam Zhang is another POV that I enjoyed reading; in palace cdrama you might find characters that look like her, but oftentimes they are painted as one-dimensional villain.
