It was recorded at the band's Britannia Row Studios in London throughout 1976 and early 1977, and was produced by the band themselves. I'm still not a superfan of Pink Floyd, but hot damn this album got me to sit up and take notice and is a release I know I'll come back to again and again.

Not only does it have a punchy crisp bass that thunders, but the lead guitar work and synth in Sheep are a full frontal assault that at times leaves you overwhelmed, and yet every note comes through clear as crystal and leaves you wanting the album to be longer. Animals highlights the bands intricate balance between indie rock, catchy pop and technical prowess, all while ignoring the lure of special effects and studio wizardry. Taking inspiration from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the album depicts the different classes of people as animals with pigs being at the top of the social chain, dropping down to the sheep as the mindless herd following what they are told, with dogs as the business bosses getting fat on the money and power they hold over the other. I asked her what other albums she thought I would like and was told that Animals was a great album, so I bought it for her to replace her damaged first pressing and give myself a reason to continue to explore their works properly.Music-wise; it's Animals by Pink Floyd, so proper rock (and the occasional swear word), but with a lot less sound effects compared to Dark Side.
