The setting of the story was described quite nicely, and reading this book felt like a very vivid journey into Seabrook, and I was left feeling truly immersed in the atmosphere of the world. Nobody needs to read beyond this sentence, as all they will find below is some very strange mental cat herding. The characters are likeable and there is a bit of intrigue in all of them until the story unfolds toward and unforgetable ending. Last week our London flat was besieged; there was drilling from the gutted apartment below, hammering from the roofers above and steeplejacks were clambering past all the windows. Originating from a short story he created as a child, the result of Parker’s decade long mission to produce the book has come to fruition.I felt that the final idea was somewhat childish, that the booked was soooooo long and for no reason, it dragged on FOREVER. Had I known what was involved and how long it would take, I’m not sure I would have ever begun, but for some reason I just kept plugging away at it, day after day, week after week, and soon the weeks became months, the months became years, and now, finally, almost a decade after I typed those first words, the novel is finally out in the big wide world. The small coastal community of Seabrook was well described – I could picture it (though undoubtably with a British bias!

Amy discovers the condemned remains of the town's famous lighthouse, once used to help traveler's safely find their way home. I know there are online systems for this - I tried Scrivener, with its skeuomorphic cork boards, and it seemed so complicated that the system got in the way of the writing.

Following Amy and Ryan as they learned to cope with their own grief and find ways of moving forward, was such a rewarding thing to witness. The Lighthouse by Christopher Parker is one such book that is comparable to the same feeling of utter speechlessness.
