About this deal

Chopping walls can be useful to create openings, thereby allowing quicker access to a victim or an endangered location. The players take on the role of a team of firefighters trying to put out the fire in a house and rescue the people and animals trapped inside.

Do you focus initially on putting out the fires, letting the victims wait until the fire is more contained? The Flash Point: Fire Rescue rules are quite simple, but beating the game can be pretty tough on the right difficulty level. Thus, there is a strong incentive to not only rescue the victims, but to keep the fire under control by extinguishing flames and removing smoke counters. So much of the information on the board is hidden, so while you will want to talk to your teammates about what you want to do, it’s ultimately your decision where you go into the house. Andrea “Liga” Ligabue: I’m not a enthusiast of full collaborative games but I found Flash Point quite fun. Then there's the Rescue Specialist, who can move diagonally and chop through walls for 1 AP (instead of 2).

You will take on one of the six firefighter roles and work with your teammates to move in and around the house as the fire spreads unpredictably. The initial 10 Threat markers are placed with the “Fire” side face up, to indicate a fire already raging within the house. As far as the other roles, the Paramedic (can treat victims for 2 AP so they're easier to carry out, not costing any further AP to carry), the Generalist (5 actions per turn instead of 4) and the Imaging Technician (spend 2 AP to look at a POI counter anywhere in the house) are all okay, if not spectacular, but at least nothing cancels their good ability.

Although a few of them are more useful in specific situations while others are generally more useful all the time (for example, the Paramedic is fairly lame with 2 players, but can be AWESOME in a larger group if they can run from POI to POI to treat victims while the other players rescue them), each role gives its player an awesome ability that is fun to use. There is usually a persistent sense of impending disaster that forces players to tend to numerous hot spots simultaneously, while at the same time attempting to reach and rescue trapped victims.

Both versions are relatively simple to play (relative to the kind of games I normally play, that is), but the Experienced version has more options and “chrome” that will appeal to older children and even experienced gamers. Continuing with our example from above, it’s now time for Yellow to roll the dice and see how the Fire advances. In both versions, players must coordinate their efforts to keep the fire contained long enough to rescue the trapped victims. For those, like me, who do not know a Meeple from a steeple, “Meeple” is a generic term for little wooden figures used in board gaming. Flash Point: Fire Rescue is a turned-based strategy game that places you in command of a squad of specially trained firefighters with the sole aim to rescue survivors form a raging structural fire.Players must constantly talk to each other, offer suggestions and advice, and cleverly coordinate their actions and optimally employ their special abilities. Can you erode or limit Chinese World Standing while frustrating their ambitions, without allowing Tension to get out of control? While this will likely be a future topic where we can go into more depth between cooperative games, we’ll quickly say that Flash Point has a unique feel to us and stands very well on its own. His theory was that the time he’d save on the way back (through the chopped walls) while saddled with having to carry a victim would more than make up for the time spent chopping.

If you really love Flash Point: Fire Rescue, there’s even expansion maps which alter the difficulty, add extra rules and change-up your experience. The other random element is where the people and pets (points of interest) pop up during the game for you to go rescue. In many ways this is actually a good thing – fire, by its nature, is rather unpredictable and you have to be ready for it to pop up anywhere. Ultimately if you manage to save enough people from the fire then you win the game, however the game is lost if the house falls down or if too many people die in the blaze. Included in the dense package are two sets of rules, allowing the game to be played with either families or experienced gamers.
