About this deal

Tyson also shares a side of him that few people get to see and that in the weeks before the biggest fight of his career in 2021 he was sleeping on the hospital floor in intensive care following the premature birth of his daughter Athena who was fighting for her life.

What’s more, his trilogy of fights with the fearsome US heavyweight Deontay Wilder are some of the most compelling contests of their division for a couple of decades. Gloves Off is not a case of bare-fisted self-exposure, but instead a carefully edited version of events. There is no mention, for example, of Daniel Kinahan, the alleged Irish gangster based in Dubai, whom Fury publicly thanked in 2020 for his work as a boxing promoter.Detailing never before told stories Tyson Fury pulls no punches in his most candid and entertaining book yet. Which makes you wonder how he would handle the retirement to which he continually refers in the book. With revealing intimacy, Tyson also shares new sides to his character: in the weeks before the biggest fight of his career in 2021 the devoted father was sleeping on a hospital floor in intensive care tending to his new-born daughter Athena who was born premature and fighting for her life. So open and honest and since watching his struggles with mental health and how honest he is about that side of his life really made me appreciate him as a person a lot. He talks rather too much about smashing people up, but actually some of his key victories, such as against Klitschko, have been on points and are much more about stamina and ring nous than brute force.

He shares fascinating blow-by-blow accounts of his inspiring victories against Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte, his recovery from the depths of depression, and his journey to reclaiming his world heavyweight title. The most talented British heavyweight since Lennox Lewis (who boxed for Canada in the 1988 Seoul Olympics) and, some would argue (including Fury himself), the best in history, he has made some shockingly homophobic and antisemitic comments in the past. Other than an insight into his faith and mental health problems, the rest just felt a usual story of I did this and that, which you already knew. The man himself says it’s just an act, designed to maximise attention and therefore viewers and profit. Sometimes, the whole “Gypsy King” showman drama – being carried to the ring on a throne in one of the Wilder fights – may occlude Fury’s genuinely impressive achievements in the ring. This book allowed me to make important reflections on my own faith and mental health, thank you for sharing your story Tyson. In the meantime, he’ll be fighting British heavyweight Derek Chisora (for the third time) on Saturday 3 December. In the process, Tyson discusses his mental health and weight battles, his faith and his greatest boxing experiences.

He’s someone who rejects any interest in celebrities, while publishing photographs of himself with Ed Sheeran and Robbie Williams. He looks back at his incredible life and career, examining what's really defined him, from his travelling upbringing to his fighting family, his beloved wife Paris and his 6 beautiful children, his mental health battles and his rise, fall and rise again in and out of the ring. Tyson was victorious in the second fight against Deontay Wilder in February 2020, defeating his opponent by seventh-round technical knockout. Born and raised in Manchester, Fury weighed just 1lb at birth after being born three months premature. He praises the strict moral values of the Traveller community from which he comes, but sidesteps the alleged wrongdoing of the crime boss seen in his company.

Got through 125 pages but he could of just written ‘I love myself’ multiple times and it would have had the same effect! He celebrates the importance of fitness and his efforts to get in shape, but rejects sports science, heart-rate monitors and data assessment. By the end of the book, as he surveys the potential contenders, he appears indistinguishable from all those predecessors who didn’t know when to say goodbye. Fascinating insight into his mental health but very similar content as the last book (money spinner? Photograph: Étienne Laurent/EPA View image in fullscreen Tyson Fury in his rematch with US boxer Deontay Wilder for the WBC world heavyweight championship in Las Vegas, February 2020.Key to a good sports autobiography is that you get an insight into the real person and the key successes and failures information you didn’t know. I love Tyson and what he’s achieved against all the odds just shows what strong character he really is regardless of his mental health battles.
