About this deal

The upper is made out of two smooth materials, one that makes up most of the midfoot of the upper and another a bit more stretchy material that makes up the toe box, tongue and heel counter of this shoe. It is not a one-piece upper, like the Epic React, but it has a semi-detached tongue. Both shoes have a wide, anchored tongue, which contributes to a secure feel (in all of Saucony’s ISOFIT lines). Saucony’s shoe is much more plush all-around, than Odyssey; l prefer the more streamlined, breathable, responsive, and (surprisingly) more stable Odyssey. The biggest problem with the new upper design is the thin tongue. A careful balance must be found between a secure hold and laces digging into the top of my foot. And if I pull them tightly the remainder of the laces are a bit too long. It also makes it impossible to lace them any other way, which seems to be a trend in running shoes lately, because I’ve got several pairs that have that same problem. There are no extra eyelets you can use and if you wanted to put other laces in, you’d have to cut the toggle system.

I prefer a thin layer of Boost foam, such as in adidas Adizero Tempo 9 for long distance racing, but Odyssey is a favorite for training runs. Because if you Google the term, it mainly just shows you all the shoes in the Nike Shield line, but it doesn’t really give you any other products with this rating. There are ways to measure and describe how water repellent fabric is, but as far as I can tell, G.90 isn’t one of them. Upper of the Odyssey React Shiel These shoes definitely have higher arches than any other stability shoe I have run in and work best for a medium-high arch.Just examining the shoe, it seems too flexible, like it won’t hold up for me, but after putting over 120 miles on these in the last three weeks, my feet and knees feel great! That speaks louder than fancy lingo and traditional expectations. The outsole of the Odyssey React Shield has more rubber than the outsole of the Epic React, making it perfect in wet weather conditions. Storm Thread rubber are used for the Odyssey React Shield, which provides more traction on wet surfaces. It doesn’t only have rubber underneath the heel and forefoot, but there are two extra pieces of rubber underneath the ball of your foot extending towards the midfoot. The wide, flat tongue and snug fit of Europa gained my favor right away. It’s very similar to Odyssey (slightly better, with the lacing loops), but this later shoe extends the boundary even more by attaching the “tongue” to the baselines. Nike Odyssey React Sole Unit I don’t list the mid-grade heel counter as a “con” because the med-high arch makes up for it to counter my over-pronation caused by the loose ligaments in my feet (similar to the benefit from my custom inserts from Dr. Paul Coffin).

But I’m not sure why they didn’t change that with the Odyssey React Shield. They already stitched an overlay on top of the tongue, so they might as well put the label on the inside like most shoe companies. Or just print it onto the inside rather than using a label. Nike launched their React midsole in 2018 with Epic React Flyknit and Odyssey React (no Flyknit upper) as the stability version. Second time around, we have the latest upper added to the breakthrough midsole, in Odyssey React Flyknit 2.The change in Odyssey 2 came by way of a Flyknit upper replacing the jacquard-weave, neoprene combo that this shoe debuted with last year. The Nike React midsole offers “soft” heel cushioning and “moderate” energy return, according to RW Lab Test data. Trevor Raab All the Stats You Need! Men’s
