About this deal

PROFILE OF NOVEL: Stand on Zanzibar was written by John Brunner in 1968. it is a New Wave science fiction novel about a future dystopia. it won the Hugo Award in 1969. it won my heart and mind in 1990. i just reread it.

It’s one of the prettiest buildings in Zanzibar (so great for photography buffs) and inside has a pretty courtyard and a small museum about the history of the island. Learn to Cook Zanzibari Style Whilst it’s fine to visit a lot of villages on the island, going on an organised village tourwith a guide is a good way to get an insight into daily life whilst contributing to the local economy. Jambiani on the east coast is a great village to visit and the people very welcoming. According to the 2022 LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index, Tanzania scores an F rating for LGBTQ+ traveller safety, ranking 185th out of 203 countries. With eerie echoes of Arthur C. Clarke's 2001, A Space Odyssey where computer HAL calls many of the shots in outer space, so Zanzibar features Shalmaneser, the ultimate supercomputer making many critical decisions right here on Earth. Some of the lowly humans complain how those in power don't trust anybody except a computer. You can have sweet ones with bananas and chocolate sauce or savoury ones with meat, veg and cheese. In mine, I usually have… mango, avocado, onions, tomatoes, Happy Cow Cheese Triangles and an egg! This conversation summarizes a perfectly normal reaction to both John Brunner novels I’ve read so far. I am not a religious person, but in the case of Mr. Brunner, I do have to wonder if he was a prophet, because both “Stand on Zanzibar” and “The Sheep Look Up” ( https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) are uncomfortably close to reality. Sure, he gets a few things wildly off the mark and is clearly a man of his time who loved psychotropics, but otherwise… Eeesh. Hotels mostly accept credit cards but expect to pay a surcharge of 4-5%. Restaurants and bars outside of a big resort are mostly on a cash basis. ATM Fees are outrageous

The cheapest month for flights to Zanzibar is April. On the other hand, the most expensive months are June and July. One of my favourite things to do in Zanzibar is just to wander around Stone Town, which is the old town of Zanzibar City, the capital of the Zanzibar archipelago. Kendwa, the town just south of Nungwi is a great option if you want to enjoy the same beaches without the big crowds of people. Both options are prime for enjoying sunsets as the areas in the east, while beautiful, don’t enjoy such things! Matemwe, Kiwengwa, Pongwe, and the northeast
