Now, we’re going to take a look at some of the different options and why a witch might want to go with a particular one. What is the Basic Altar Setup?

Ceremonial: The by-the-book practice of placing the highest value in—not to mention expertly executing—ceremonies and rituals.Decide on what you would like to include on your altar such as images, candles, tools etc…(see above for more details on what to include) A witch’s altar can be whatever you want it to be and there are no rules you have to follow to create an altar the ‘right’ way. Create as many altars as you please and let them be decorated in any way you choose and for whatever purpose suits your needs and practice. What will you use your witch’s altar for An altar is a personal thing for a Wiccan, and its purpose can vary from witch to witch. But that being said, there are some broad, common themes that tend to crop up when you ask a witch about the importance her altar. When people talk about feeling spiritual energy, are you left wondering exactly what that feels like?

An altar can be a source of energy and inspiration for some, but if you’re worried that this is just going to be a burden or a nuisance, then it’s likely to sap both energy and inspiration. Wand: this helps you channel energy and cast spells. Set it on the God’s side, near the element of fire. The eight major Wiccan holidays (or sabbats) are a great opportunity to spruce up your altar. Adding colors or symbols associated with a particular celebration is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. In this article, we’re going to break down everything you could possibly need to know about how to set up and how to use a Wiccan altar. From the purposes it serves to how to make it look beautiful and work great–we’ve got you covered.I can provide you with all the puzzle pieces, but it’s up to you to put them all together. There are so many different types of Wiccan altars, and I’m excited to see what you come up with! In Wiccan tradition, the left side of a witch altar is considered the feminine side, while the right side is the masculine. On the left, you may want to arrange items like a chalice or cauldron, while on the right, you may want to keep your wand and athame. The center is where the Goddess and God meet; this is the “working area” where you do your witch’s work or sacred practice. Place the items on your altar in a sacred way: Take a deep breath and bring to focus your intention for creating this sacred space.

Cleanse the space by physically cleaning the surface and your items. You may also cleanse with sound or smoke.

It’s important to regularly cleanse your witch’s altar because your altar is your temple. So cleanse it often, and always do it right before you do any kind of ritual or spellwork—make it a part of your ritual. Clear away any dust and tidy it. Replace any dead flowers or plants. Shower it with love and care. Athame: this is a symbolic knife that you use to direct energy and cast a circle. Place it on the God’s side, towards the element of fire. No matter where, when, or how much stuff or space you start with it really doesn't matter, so long as it speaks to you then it is sacred space. Now go make some magic you beautiful humans! Fresh or dried flowers and herbs are a lovely way to incorporate the element of earth into your witch altar and add some color and life to it. Plus, herbs are a common ingredient for every green witch or kitchen witch because they’re involved in many spells and medicinal potions.
