About this deal

I didn’t expect to buy this controversial palette (long after the drama died down), but I caved so here is my take on it. Use the matte and metallic eyeshadows as highlight shades. Use the warm matte neutral eyeshadows for contouring and defining, and the warm and cool metallic eyeshadows as accent shades. Axis is the worst to blend so I’ve provided some photos as examples of how the shadows blend. I applied and blended this out on my hand using my finger for easy demonstration. SHADE: REALGAR MICA, DIMETHICONE, BORON NITRIDE, NYLON-12, ZINC STEARATE, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH, GLYCERIN, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, SILICA, ZINC MYRISTATE, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, ISOPENTYLDIOL, LAUROYL LYSINE, PHENOXYETHANOL, POLYSILICONE-11, TOCOPHEROL, MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR: (+/-) YELLOW 5 LAKE (CI 19140), CARMINE (CI 75470), ULTRAMARINES (CI 77007), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891) <1510313>*CONTAINS CARMINE AS A COLOR ADDITIVE.

First of all, thanks for the crazy in-depth review. You are always on point, but you really outdid yourself here 🙂 The first ingredient now is talc (replacing mica in the MR palette), which is unbelievable for me. As a person with skin allergies, I really try to avoid talc, as well as other ingredients that might cause an issue. That’s the reason I kept buying ABH (and, for example, avoiding Too Faced and their perfumed palettes – ugh, don’t even get me started on those). I love a more grungy- undone look, so I'm not a big shadow blender which is a major deciding factor in how Subculture is going to work for you - to get the fantastic pigmentation that these shadows have means that the shadows are very softly pressed, so firmer application and overworking the shadows will just muddy the shades into a patchy mess. The shadows apply very pigmented in the initial area they’re applied, but don’t spread out evenly. Most of the pigment remains concentrated in the first spot and any attempt at blending ends up looking splotchy, uneven. No problem, Alex! 🙂 If someone is not familiar with the Glossover, I can see why someone would think it should be 4/10.

Texture

Be aware that some shades darken once on the lid (try dusting the lid with translucent or flesh-toned powder first) Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Dimethicone, Zinc Stearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, May Contain/Peut Contenir: (+/-) Mica, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77499), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891) <171558>

Fall Out: A few shades had a little fall out but nothing out of the ordinary compared to the other ABH palettes. Fall out happens with a lot of pigamented shadows, and I don’t mind it. The only thing that truly matters is whether it blends on the eyes and looks nice at the end of the day. I find that lightly tapping (without blending) the product on avoids oxidation, but this motion alone creates really harsh edges and it’s ultimately not a feasible way of creating a full eye look. At first glance, it looks weird— a bit unusual from all the neutrals and warm shadows we’re used to. But after a few more encounters, strangely our perspective changes.I noticed that sometimes the eyeshadows did not blend as well into each other, and this seemed particularly true when attempting to layer and blend the deeper shades over the lighter ones, but while trying to apply some of the lighter shades over the deeper ones, they seemed to wash out and muddy up the colors. The thing is, this hasn't been an issue I've encountered often with Anastasia's eyeshadow formula. I've tried the palette over bare skin (duh) along with four primers: Smashbox 24HR, Marc Jacobs Coconut Eye Primer, Urban Decay Original Primer Potion, and LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Primer. It did not get better or worse with or without a certain primer; it remained inconsistent. SHADE: TEMPERA MICA, DIMETHICONE, BORON NITRIDE, NYLON-12, ZINC STEARATE, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH, ZINC MYRISTATE, GLYCERIN, SILICA, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, ISOPENTYLDIOL, LAUROYL LYSINE, PHENOXYETHANOL, POLYSILICONE-11, TOCOPHEROL, MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR: (+/-) YELLOW 5 LAKE (CI 19140), CARMINE (CI 75470), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891) <1510314>*CONTAINS CARMINE AS A COLOR ADDITIVE. Any let downs? The duo chrome shades Cube and Electric aren't as soft and apply on the sheer side, but almost every duo chrome shadow I've tried is, so I guess that's not a real negative for me as the shadow seems to be designed as shadow toppers. Dampening the dense shader end of the supplied brush for application of these two shades, gives a more intense look, compared to applying the shades dry. TEMPERA: DIMETHICONE, BORON NITRIDE, NYLON-12, ZINC STEARATE, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH, ZINC MYRISTATE, GLYCERIN, SILICA, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, ISOPENTYLDIOL, LAUROYL LYSINE, PHENOXYETHANOL, POLYSILICONE-11, TOCOPHEROL, MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): MICA, YELLOW 5 LAKE (CI 19140), CARMINE (CI 75470), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891)

Fudge is a deep brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety, and substantial matte finish that had some powderiness in the pan but did not present fallout concerns during application. This shade is available as a permanent single, and I found the iteration in the palette to be harder to diffuse and blend out. I actually used a touch of this in my initial look, where I didn’t notice any difficulties using it (where I used it on the outer lid in a smaller area), but when I attempted to use it in the crease the next day with a combo of Edge, New Wave, and Roxy (which had all blended nicely together) on the lid, I could not get Fudge to diffuse and blend into those lighter shades; it looked like a cut crease. I was, however, able to diffuse the edge of Fudge above the crease, where there was no eyeshadow yet. I did not have this problem with the single version of Fudge, which was also slightly darker and less warm-toned in comparison (they felt completely different). The eyeshadow wore well for eight hours on me. GLISTENING: DIMETHICONE, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, BORON NITRIDE, NYLON-12, OCTYLDODECYL STEAROYL STEARATE, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH, ZINC STEARATE, SILICA, GLYCERIN, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, ZINC MYRISTATE, BEESWAX/CERA ALBA/CIRE D'ABEILLE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, ISOPENTYLDIOL, LAUROYL LYSINE, PHENOXYETHANOL, POLYSILICONE-11, SODIUM POLYACRYLATE, THEOBROMA CACAO (COCOA) SEED BUTTER, TIN OXIDE, TOCOPHEROL, MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): MICA, BRONZE POWDER (CI 77400), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891) I agree, what a serious work you have out into this review!! Quite amazing and very helpful and soothing compared to all the rage that seems to get channeled through this little palette… Now as I mentioned in my Modern Renaissance review, I am going to get the entire collection. I have already gotten my own Modern Renaissance after my sister accidently smashed my Wet n Wild Rose in the Air Palette, which was a dupe for that palette. But now I’m super excited that I have the Modern Renaissance palette, and wore that every single day last week along with one of the ColourPop Jelly Much shadows.

Second, I have to say I’m deeply disappointed in ABH. I just reviewed the ingredients, and I CANNOT believe ABH “sold out” and are now using sub-par ingredients.answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but
