About this deal

The displays have rounded corners. When measured diagonally as a rectangle, the iPad Pro 12.9‑inch screen is 12.9 inches, the iPad Pro 11‑inch screen is 11 inches, the iPad Air and iPad (10th generation) screens are 10.86 inches, and the iPad mini screen is 8.3 inches. Actual viewable area is less.

This hinge design makes this case stand out from every other iPad keyboard in existence. But is it the best possible design? The Magic Keyboard is stable on a lap and is built to be well-balanced for lap use. It is a rigid keyboard with no flexibility. TiltScissor switches are more reliable than the butterfly switches that Apple was using in prior keyboards, with the butterfly switches prone to failure due to dust and other small particulates. The scissor switch keyboard can be seen in this x-ray of the Magic Keyboard shared by iFixit. If you're already accustomed to using a MacBook, then all of these gestures will feel even more intuitive. And, even if you're new to the Apple ecosystem, you'll still find the movements are easy to catch onto.

There are things about it that I love and things about it that I think are * overdesigned*. Let me explain. While there's clearly a lot to rave about when it comes to the Magic Keyboard, there are two things to be aware of: battery life and weight. The 11-inch Magic Keyboard options sold in 2020 and 2021 are compatible with ‌iPad Pro‌ models from 2018, 2020, and 2021, as well as the fourth-generation iPad Air. Software Requirements Believe it or not, you can use most keyboards — including one you might have bought with a desktop computer — with an iPad. But you’ll need to have a USB-C adapter, unless the keyboard itself is USB-C, so that you can plug your keyboards into the USB-C port of your iPad. However, there are other specially designed keyboards that are tailored to your iPad and avoid any added wires. The tilt of the ‌iPad Pro‌ when inside the Magic Keyboard can be adjusted from 90 to 130 degrees. USB-C Port If you were able to place the iPad directly onto the keyboard base at the exact angle it sits when fully open, you'd cut off the number keys row entirely. This hover design allows for plenty of keyboard space, while also providing enough wrist pad distance for you to comfortably set the palm of your hands if that's how you type.

Overall, it has held up quite well, all things considered. Since it is made with a soft-touch silicone material, it can get scuffed up a little easier, but it's easy to wipe it away when necessary. As long as you take care of it and store it properly when not in use, the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard will still look decent, even a year later. Mine has mostly been stowed away in the box since I actually prefer the Logitech Folio Touch as my daily iPad Pro keyboard case, but I did use the Magic Keyboard regularly before getting that one. It has been through multiple bags and carried around by hand, and still looks good. There may be a few visible scuffs and marks here and there, but my iPad Pro itself is still in pristine condition. It's also super comfortable to use while watching Netflix or any other similar streaming service. At night, I'd prop it up on my bed to catch up on shows. More often than not though, however, I'd unclip it from the case and use it as a full-on tablet. A couple of complaints Apple doesn't list the rated battery life for the iPad Pro when paired with the Magic Keyboard case, but the tablet itself is expected to last up to 10 hours with typical use. Regardless, if battery life is at the top of your list when it comes to choosing iPad accessories, then you might want to reconsider whether this is the case for you. Regardless, the case is hefty. But the most I had to do in quarantine was bring it from room to room, so it didn't bother me as much. However, it's certainly more of an issue if you tend to carry a lot with you on your commute already.

An intuitive, comfortable design

Moving away from angling and into hovering, I really like the way the iPad hovers over the keyboard. I don't think Apple could have made the keyboard as roomy if it weren't for the fact that the iPad is up and out of the way. Another bonus about the Logitech Folio Touch? It's almost half the cost of the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard, with slightly more functionality. What's not to like about that? 11-inch iPad Pro Magic Keyboard: Should you buy it? You should buy this if... The first-generation 12.9-inch Magic Keyboard released in 2020 is compatible with 2018 and 2020 ‌iPad Pro‌ models. It is not compatible with 2021 ‌iPad Pro‌ models. I'm not saying the unique angling isn't a good idea. It's certainly one of the best ideas I've seen for a keyboard case. I'm just saying I think it suffers from being overly designed. The keys themselves have rounded edges. They aren't sharp like the iMac's Magic Keyboard, but also not as soft as the Smart Keyboard for iPad. The keys have just the slightest bit of a concave curve. It's almost unnoticeable, but you can feel the curve if you run your finger across the keys.
