About this deal

Most wallpapers, especially textured or woven styles, expand and shrink during the decorating process. As you apply the adhesive, the wet paper balloons. When it dries, it'll return to its original size. Multiply this figure by the perimeter (P) of the room to get the total length of lining paper for the room (LPT). These grades are the best choice for you if you’re redecorating a property that’s generally in good condition, and you simply want a perfectly smooth surface that will make applying your wallpaper even easier. 1200 – 1400 If you are hanging horizontally you will get two full lengths per roll on a typical 12ft wall. Again you will need at least three rolls for each wall. If you are going to wallpaper after hanging lining paper the pro approach is to hang the lining paper horizontally. This helps ensure that the seam on the wallpaper and lining paper don’t match up and gives a strong secure finish. How long after hanging lining paper can I paint it?

Newly hung lining paper should be left for at least 24 hours to make sure that it has dried out properly before any paint is applied. If the room is cold then you want to leave it for at least 48 hours. Or, introduce a gentle ambient heat to help speed up the drying process. Choose 1200 or 1400 grade lining paper if your walls are moderately damaged. This lining paper is heavier than 800 – 1000, so it’s also a great way to increase the durability of your wallpaper or paint. 1700 – 2000 We've just moved into a new flat - built around 1900 and with lime plaster walls. They're largely okay, but there are lots of small defects across them. Mainly scraper gouges etc. We're on a tight budget so trying to repair them ourselves, but we're totally new to it all. If you are hanging lining paper like this 1200 grade lining paper from B&Q horizontally you need to mark down around 10cm from the ceiling. Now measure each roll width — typically 53cm down the wall to see what size strip you have at the bottom. If you have a skinny strip, start further up the wall. However, if you do have crumbling plaster, try to clean and repair the wall before putting up the lining paper. If you're unable to patch the plaster, you may need to remove the loose plaster, fill the hole or area with browning or bonding plaster, and then skim over it. A plasterer may be required if this is beyond your DIY skillset.

To manually work out the number of rolls required, use this simple calculation: Step 1: Calculate the length of lining paper needed for one wall.

We plan to line it after the base is ready. The flat's in Berlin and I've seen some paste the wall liner in the shops here from Erfurt that's designed for renovation - it's 300g/m2, which I think gives a UK equivalent of 3000 as a lining paper figure. Any thoughts on this? It’s worth noting that pasting the wall is only an option with paste-the-wall lining paper and not conventional lining paper. Many have tried applying adhesive to the wall before applying conventional lining paper, and it’s fair to say the results are disastrous. WHICH IS BEST FOR ME? Lining paper eliminates any guesswork. While it may absorb more paint without the use of a primer, you won’t suffer in terms of adhesion or durability. In other words, it’s up to you whether you want to prime your lining paper beforehand or paint straight on and use a little more paint in the process. HOW TO HANG LINING PAPER Plus, when you apply adhesive paste to wallpaper, the added moisture can cause bleeding. Lining paper combats this by speeding up the drying process to keep colours looking fresh. 4. Evening out porosity for better paint coverage You should leave newly hung lining paper for at least 24 hours before you think about painting it. If the room is cold you want to think about leaving the lining paper for at least 48 hours.

Use a low sheen or matt paint as this is less reflective and helps hide imperfections. What grade of lining paper should I use? Lower grades like 800-1000 are the best choice if you’re redecorating walls that are in a decent condition and you want a smooth surface to make things easier. Lining paper delivers a flat finish that looks immaculate every time. It's convenient if you live in an old building because it seamlessly covers walls that have been redecorated and replastered. Measuring your wall and doing some calculations. By doing these calculations you can avoid being left with a very thin strip of lining paper to hang at the base of the wall.

The common roll size for linen paper is 10m x 53cm. This means in a typical size room with 2.4m high walls you can expect to get four drops on straight ceiling to floor drops. So you will need around three rolls per wall depending on how many fixtures — doors, windows — you have. So what makes it ‘pure’? Quite simply it’s made from pure pulp, sourced from carefully managed forests accredited by either FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification*). Lining paper is a great way to turn plasterboard into a paint- or wallpaper-ready surface. You’ll need to fill the joints and screw holes before doing so. Make sure they’re nicely sanded down and seal the plasterboard with a primer or PVA solution. WHAT IS THE BEST LINING PAPER FOR PAINTING?There's no need to worry about paint seeping into the walls when you use lining paper. It's suitable for all emulsion paints, but matte emulsions work particularly well because they're better at hiding minor imperfections. 5. Minimising wallpaper shrinkage Our lining paper range includes standard lining paper that you apply adhesive to, or paste the wall lining paper. Paste the wall can be easier to hang as you apply the adhesive to the wall rather than the paper, so you don’t have heavy folded paper to hang. For paste the wall lining paper, we recommend using a paint roller to apply the adhesive to the wall. Conventional lining paper has been used by decorators for years, in many cases with great results. That said, the clear advantages of paste-the-wall lining paper can’t be denied.
