About this deal

In the Line of Duty III is barely a franchise entry, but for me it betters its two predecessors. Yes Madam’s action is better overall, but the pacing and tonal balance is much stronger here, and Michiko Nishiwaki just pushes this entry to the top of the pile for me. Ska Martes on The Heroic Trio & Executioners | 4K UHD & Blu-ray (Criterion) Great movies and the kind of megastar casting that you just don't get anymore…

On March 20, 2023, Eureka will be releasing the Blu-ray (Region B) for In the Line of Duty III, a 1988 Hong Kong actioner directed by Arthur Wong ( Ulterior Motive) and Brandy Yuen ( Three Against the World). To be honest, I was a great deal nervous about this release since the new 2K restoration was performed by Fortune Star and not Eureka Entertainment themselves. Fortune Star used to release some upscaled SD masters on Blu-ray in the early 2010s, although their masters have greatly increased in quality since then. And this new 1080p AVC-encoded presentation is indicative of that growth, thankfully. This is a really nice and clean presentation, with film grain being a bit lighter than anticipated, although the levels change during optical effects and the title sequence. This Eureka Classics Limited Edition of In the Line of Duty III features a Limited Edition O-Card slipcase featuring new artwork by Darren Wheeling [First Print Run of 2000 copies] and a Limited Edition collector’s booklet featuring new writing by James Oliver [First Print Run of 2000 copies]. On disc extras include the marvelous two audio commentaries listed below, my preferred one being the one with Mike Leeder and Arne Venema since their conversational banter makes it very listenable as well as informative, but Frank Djeng also brings his usual wealth of knowledge to the table in his solo commentary.

All four features are sourced from 2K restorations provided by Fortune Star, all with the MPEG-4 encode and certainly pulling the most out of the sometimes-problematic sources. That isn’t to say that the video quality across the board is bad, but these Fortune Star restorations tend to look a bit too flat and smooth to be considered true to the sources they used to scan. However, 88 Films make all the transfers look great nonetheless. Andrew Hernandez on Believer 2 (2023) Review Wow. I know you’ve hated other movies before, but this is flat out contempt!… leap toward international superstardom, while the subsequent two films feature Cynthia Khan. If there's a "through line" tethering the films PLUS: A Limited Edition collector’s booklet featuring new writing by James Oliver [First Print Run of 2000 copies] Brand new feature length audio commentary by Asian film expert Frank Djeng (NY Asian Film Festival)As with Part 3, In the Line of Duty IV receives Eureka’s customary solid Blu-ray treatment. The picture is a huge upgrade on the old DVD, the sound is mono but does its job. It’s not the disc you’ll show off your system with, but it’s far and away the best presentation of this film. equivalent of Police Woman, albeit with a facility for martial arts that Pepper Anderson never had.

films, Frank Djeng kind of hilariously gets into how this supposed "series" really isn't by any objective standard, and that in fact due to the note that In the Line of Duty didn't even crop up in any original title until the third film). Whether or not Royal Warriors or Yes Madam is defined as the "first" film, and whether or not all four are indeed a traditional "series", the first two There is a chance to read into the Hong Kong/American alliance, wherein the U.S. police immediately turns to fighting rather than arrests. That idea dissipates though as other In the Line of Duty entries did the same, just with other nations like Japan. Each film gives Hong Kong a superior sensibility, and Khan is capable of making her reluctance logical. It’s part of her character, and transitioning between sequels is easier for it.Gaylord Picht on Hard Target | 4K UHD + Blu-ray (Kino Lorber) That's fantastic news! I'm thrilled to hear that the 116 min test screening v… In the fan-favourite fourth entry in the In the Line of Duty film series, action superstar Donnie Yen and Cynthia Khan team up with legendary martial-arts director Yuen Woo-ping. The story just barely hangs together, and there are several Ed Woodian shifts between night and day and between locations, but coming to this movie for a complex investigative storyline is like going to a Friday the 13 th movie for an in depth exploration of teenage relationships… even if you DID get that it’s not really the point. Bruce Jensen on Slaughter in San Francisco | Blu-ray (88 Films) Wow. I appreciate the fine work Eureka!, 88 Films, Arrow, etc. are doing in b…

JJ Bona on Slaughter in San Francisco | Blu-ray (88 Films) You can definitely polish turd so a "so bad, it's good" film is presented bet… To cash in on the success of “Tiger Cage”, Donnie Yen starred with Cynthia Khan in “In the Line of Duty 4”. When “In the Line of Duty 4” made it to DVD on the Hong Kong Legends label, it was released as “In the Line of Duty”. I’m running out of ways to say that Eureka continue to deliver the goods in their presentation of their line of martial arts classics. The mono sound is solid if unspectacular, but the restoration of the image makes these movies look better than they likely ever have in the UK. It’s another impressive job.
