About this deal

If you’re picturing ‘killer mermaids’ as Ariel with a knife, think again. These are creepy, bite-your-face-off, apex predator mermaids. INTO THE DROWNING DEEP is best read with both feet on solid ground, especially if you happen to scream every time seaweed brushes your legs. Unholy Matrimony: Jacques and Michi are a pair of murderous Egomaniac Hunters and love each other as the only person in the world who can understand their natures. The narration notes how Michi's influence is the only reason Jacques is a big game hunter instead of a Serial Killer, and her death leaves him fatally unhinged.

From USA Today bestselling author Cassandra Khaw comes The Salt Grows Heavy, a razor-sharp and bewitching fairytale of discovering the darkness in the world, and the darkness within oneself. Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism: It's revealed near the end that all the sirens encountered so far are male. It turns out the female of the species is a single boat-sized monster that the males are desperate to keep sated. Evil Poacher: Jacques and Michi are married big game hunters who like hunting rare (therefore endangered and protected) animals since it's a thrill for them. Both have killed people who tried to stop it. When Olivia was growing up, her mother viewed her this way, treating her like a child because of her autism and not letting her date anyone. She thought anyone romantically interested in Olivia would be akin to a pedophile. A pet peeve of mine is when an author starts multiple names with the same letter. Did we really need a Holly, Hallie and Heather? Come on. It was hard for me to remember who was who, but at a certain point I honestly just stopped caring.

The Atargatis hadn’t found the mermaids through a free and open exchange of ideas. The Atargatis had found the mermaids because the people on the ship were made of meat, and the mermaids had empty stomachs that they wanted to fill. That was how you found things, in the sea. Be delicious. That was all you ever had to do.” Into the Drowning Deep is all the best of the horror genre - tense atmosphere, creative horror, interesting characters, fantastic writing, and something going on beneath the surface. I had this book marketed to me as bi girls try to survive killer mermaids, and I’d definitely call that accurate. It might feel a tad slow at times but there's so much suspense, so much edge that you'll feel nervous, you'll be anticipating something to go wrong and it all adds up to the excitement levels. I didn't care much for romance or all the super science talk at times but it's all good. The characters are decent. This is a plot driven story so don't expect a lot of character development. The ending was worth it, my jaw was on the floor and I can't believe it ended that way. Like I want moreeeee 😩😩
