About this deal

Yes! These three software titles are separate plugins and can be used in different DAWs like Garageband, Ableton, and more. Each plugin comes with VST, AU, and AAX (Pro Tools) versions to be used in your favorite software. There’s not a lot happening here as far as inputs and outputs. Everything is controlled and powered over a single USB MIDI connection, using a standard cable you probably already have lying around. There’s also a quarter-inch sustain pedal input.

TheAkai Professional MPK Mini Mkiiiis the newer model of the two. It largely builds on the strong success of its predecessor, theAkai MPK MK2. For this reason, we’ll build this in-depth review primarily around the earlier and more widely adoptedMPK Mini MK2. We’ll follow that up with a discussion of all the changes and enhancements found in the newerAkai MPK MK3. The content below should answer any questions you have about this family of controllers. The Basics of Both Models The eight knobs are still here, but now they rotate 360 degrees, giving you enhanced control of some functions. They also have built-in presets if you use the MPC software. If you need a backpack-ready controller keyboard, there’s almost too much choice, but Akai's latest is pretty special

MPC Beats comes bundled with a variety of Demo Projects and Project Templates to help familiarize you with the MPC workflow. Simply launch MPC Beats and select a Demo or Template Project from the pop-up menu. The software will load a full session with pre-loaded programs so you can start creating right out of the gate! For any feature we don’t talk about in this section, you can assume the MK3 is more or less identical to its predecessor. We’re just highlighting the differences below. Upgraded Keyboard and Build Quality Chances are, if you’re interested in these specific models, you already know that they will meet your needs. Still, if you’re new to one or more aspects of music production, it’s worth exploring who these devices are — and aren’t — for. Having a sensitive and tactile set of keys is essential when looking to capture emotion or feeling from a performance. A lot of smaller keyboards tend to have issues with the keys feeling awkward or unnatural, but the MPK Mini manages to succinctly and effectively avoid the ‘toy box’ vibe that plagues many other units that I won’t name. Upgraded Pads I believe it does. There are a couple of really neat things with the MK3 and I believe it might be the most intuitive mini option currently available. Pros

The overall build quality also seems to be enhanced. Akai calls the MK3 both rugged and portable. Knob EnhancementsBeginning with the keys; the MPK mk3 mini features a new generation of keybed, with a more responsive feeling and smoother travel. This new keybed still features 25 velocity-sensitive keys and is created to aid in the capture of even the smallest nuances that a lot of players might miss when using something with keys that are a lot stiffer or less weighted. Lukid: “Dance music can be a bit snobbish about melody - but for me, the marriage of rhythmic and melodic elements is where the magic happens” In addition to MPC Beats, MPK mini Play also includes multiple world-class plugin instruments from award-winning sound design company AIR Music Technology. Available in both AU and VST are Hybrid 3 — a powerful I have this keyboard for two months now and I am super happy about it. I use it as a small and mobile input to my MIDI setup and to create short melodies and sometimes just to have fun. You have a pretty standard arp with the MK3, however, there aren’t too many mini controllers with arps out there.

In MPC Beats the MPK can be selected from the supported controller list, although it took me a while to figure out that I needed to also enable it in the Preferences. Once done, the pads and encoders automatically stayed mapped to whatever mode was selected in the software. It would be nice if you could control a bit more, like mode selection, but there are only so many physical controls to go around. The MPK Mini is listed as a supported smart controller for Logic Pro X, so should be auto‑detected, and map to Smart Controls. This didn’t work for me, but I suspect that’s because I’m not on the latest Mac OS and Logic version. Conclusion Refer to this guide for step-by-step instructions on how to authorize and activate plugins in iLok:

Key Features

The AIR team has released standalone software versions of the Hybrid, Mini Grand, and Velvet plugins. These apps will install on your computer when you run the plugin installers from the MPK mini Software Manager. These standalone programs are great to play with if you're not looking to use a DAW and just want to plug in the MPK and make some noise!

The Akai MPK Mini mk3is USB hub powered. It connects and powers by a standard USB-A to USB-B cable and does not require an additional power supply. This intuitive instrument distills all of the key tools required by a producer into one compact unit. From a range of pads and assignable controls, to immediate integration with your preferred music production software and a new and improved Generation 2 enhanced dynamic keybed, this controller punches well above its weight. Good overall and looks fantastic! However pads are not as responsive as expected, need hard hitting..
