About this deal

Nearby is the stunning Porthcurno Beach which is not only one of Cornwall’s best beauty spots but also a Poldark location! In Art the children could use oil pastels and watercolour to create their own sea-themed paintings and then they could cut out cat outlines to make a silhouette. The Mousehole Christmas event starts in December and is completely FREE to visit although donations are welcome (watch out for fraudsters trying to charge you). You can visit anytime between 5 pm and 11 pm to see thousands of festive lights twinkling against the night skies! Why are the Mousehole harbour lights dimmed? Mousehole is located on the south-westerly coast of Cornwall and is perched nicely in between Penzance and Land’s End on Mount’s Bay.

Set right on the coast of the village, you can stroll along the harbour walls and get some amazing views of the coastline and St Clements Island. It’s a gorgeous whitewashed house with a teal door and windows, potted plants and even has some mice that scurry on the walls (look out for them!). In Science we could look at materials and design a new sail for Old Tom’s boat to help him and Mowzer survive the storm. There are a few car parks in Mousehole. The main one is by Quay Street which is the easiest of the car parks to get in and out of right as you enter. If you’re looking for quaint fishing villages to visit in Cornwall, Mousehole Harbour is a perfect choice. You couldn’t get more quintessentially Cornish if you tried. Thanks go to my GR friend Kathryn, whose lovely review inspired me to read a children's book after a 12 year hiatus ( I really miss reading to my girl) :(

It battled through 100mph winds and 60ft high waves to try and save the coast liner but never made it home. This magical show has an hour-long run time allowing families to soak up the atmosphere of Cornwall’s most famous Christmas light display and enjoy a live performance all in one evening. So begins this lovely, sweet, cozy and thrilling tale of Mowzer, and her human Old Tom. Life was happy and sweet in Mousehole until the one winter when the great Storm-Cat came to play in the harbor, trying to catch mice-men whenever they tried to put out to sea and go fishing. One day, Old Tom decides that he must be the one to bring fish to the starving villagers, for he has no wife or parents to mourn for him if the storm catches him, and his children are all grown. Mowzer feels much the same and, in her love for old Tom, accompanies him. But Mowzer has tamed many a wild tom cat before, and perhaps she will have a way to calm the Storm-Cat, too.I loved seeing some of the positive windows around here with displays of rainbows, cats, mice and positive messages. Plus, you can find an old village barometer. One of these harbours is so small and the entrance between its great stone breakwaters is so narrow that fishermen called it "the Mousehole". Inside you can learn about the amazing work the hospital does and how to help injured birds yourself. Unfortunately, it was not always such a harmonious place and lots of villagers faced starvation from the wild seas. It is now a huge tradition and event that takes place each year with bigger and better lights. Some within the village, some out on the harbour and even some at sea!
