About this deal

Let the sunshine in? Not for your nester: do not place your bird box in a south-facing position . These locations make for the hottest bird boxes as it leaves them exposed to the sun. Want to attract small bird species? Try hanging your nest box in a shady spot . Blue tit babies for example, may be well able to regulate their body temperature in high temperatures, even up to 50 °C, but studies show that it comes with a cost: the effort of keeping cool is restrictive to their growth. Most small birds who want to grow up strong and proud simply prefer a cooler environment. Leave the sunny spots for your own garden lounge chair, and save the shade for your birds. So take out your compass, and hang your bird box either facing north or east , or a little in between. That way your bird family will not only get protection from sunlight, but from wind and rain as well. As for keeping out the rain, you can also tilt the box slightly forward, to make sure the tweeties don't end up with an unwanted indoor swimming pool! Kestrel nesting boxes can only befixed to trees in woodlands with an open outlook for taking flight, so its not one to be fixed in your garden. Well a House Sparrow is happy to set up home in the busy suburbs, the Tree Sparrow requires seclusion in the woods. Do you remember at the beginning of the movie when Malorie is explaining her painting to her sister? All of these people are sitting together in a dark room in the painting, looking at their phones and paying no attention to each other. Her sister explains that, “It looks like a whole bunch of people sitting together, but they all look incredibly lonely.” That painting is the base meaning of the film. In the painting, the dark room is representative of the box, and the people within it are representative of the birds. Just as the homes are the boxes that the humans are forced to stay and are able see within, and the humans along the way are liberated within the dark spaces with their emotions. This way, they aren’t able to see the “light,” or the outside world and it’s distractions such as comparison to others through their phones, paying more attention to work instead of family, and failing to relate to people as everyone seems to be emotionally unavailable and unwilling to be vulnerable. By being forced to sit with others, in the darkness of their homes and pay attention to one another, they are able to emotionally progress and feel their feelings, as well as understand who they are, more so.

In the case of owls or Kestrels who are birds of prey, they will need a clear outlook on open farmlands and fields. Barn OwlBirds are regarded as messengers of the Gods and Heavens and represent a multitude of incredible things such as freedom and perspective, along with being the connection between the mundane and spiritual life. Their ability to fly is symbolic of the light of the spirit of hope, beauty, and transcendence. Birds are the sign of liberty to the soul and mind. They are full of spirit and are said to be the forecasters of future events, and the soul taking flight — which their flight is a metaphor for human emotions and moods. This brings us to our meaning of “Bird Box.” If bird box placement is in a shaded area with overlooking houses or big trees for example, you may be free to locate the bird box where you wish. Keep nest box away from bird feeders - as high levels of activity of visiting birds could disturb nesting pairs. This long box should be fastened to the tree trunk with a deep shaded quiet spot, as much as 3 to 5 metres off the ground.

Setting up a nesting box in your yard can provide an essential nesting area for the members of many species of birds. It is also a great way to provide wildlife a place to raise young, one of the four things you need for your outdoor area to qualify as a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Make sure cats cannot get into the box - ensure that it is not easily accessible to predators (cats and squirrels). Adding a nesting box to your habitat will not only benefit native bird species, it will also give you an opportunity to monitor and enjoy birds.Just as when they are outside, needing to have their blindfolds on because their fate would rest in the hands of seeing one of those creatures, they base their trust in the box of birds, like I said above, represent freedom and perspective, to be their eyes for them. This makes them rely on their other senses, such as touch, smell, hearing, taste, and when they can see — their emotions are heightened. I have a lot more to elaborate on regarding this and the meaning within my personal response further down. In an area where plantation over time will grow level with the bird box entrance hole, those obstructing the bird coming and going, this would be a problem. There are many reasons why your box is not being used such as the presence of natural nest cavities nearby and the location of territory boundaries. Therefore, while some boxes may be taken up immediately, others may remain vacant, often for no apparent reason. Shelter your box from the weather - the front of the nest box should be angled vertically or slightly downwards to prevent rain from entering the nest box. Make sure it is sheltered from prevailing wind, rain and strong sunlight.
