About this deal

Charles Omber – Security official at the Royal Mint who strenuously argues that none of its employees were involved in leaking information to the gang.

He is not helped by the appointment of an old enemy as acting superintendent at Scotland Yard, a man determined to throw his weight around. The circumstances of Tallis’ brutal murder are promptly relayed to Detective Inspector Colbeck at Scotland Yard. Edward has set all the novels in different countries each having different settings, the latest of which was released in the year 2004. Until the marriage of Colbeck and Madeleine much later in the series, Estelle is an unseen character who is frequently mentioned by her husband.Frank Rodman ought to have been one of them, but his current location is the cemetery or will be if his headless body is discovered. Leeming's instincts tell him otherwise and Omber eventually has to apologise after the unwitting complicity of Albert Woodhead is revealed. The criminals are travelling by road and so Colbeck and Leeming go to Bristol via the Great Western Railway (GWR).

Colbeck is unmarried in 1851 but when he meets Madeleine after the train robbery, in which her father was seriously injured, he is immediately attracted to her and their developing relationship is a series theme. The Silver Locomotive Mystery– Winifred Tomkins is horrified when a horrific murder occurs at the Railway Hotel. Inspector Colbeck's sixth outing takes him to South Wales to investigate a murder at the Railway Hotel and the theft of a silver coffee pot in the shape of a locomotive. The Lord of the Isles was a noted locomotive which was displayed at the Great Exhibition before it entered service on the Great Western Railway (GWR). His commitment to his family does not sit well with the workaholic Tallis who regards family as a distraction from work. The traditional story, however, takes on a fresh twist when the wife falls over her deceased boyfriend while heading to a tryst on the railroad tracks. As part of their investigation, Inspector Robert Colbeck and Sergeant Victor Leeming must battle Superintendent Rory McTurk, an old adversary, to identify the culprits responsible for the catastrophe.

Colbeck is captivated by the murder weapon—a noose—when confronted with what at first seems to be a murder without a cause.

Edward adopted his pseudonym of Edward Marston inspired from a real Elizabethan playwright named John Marston when he began writing novels set in the Elizabethan theatrical world. He completed his studies from the Oxford University in Modern History and began working as a lecturer in the same college.
